NSW Premier’s Department Begins Search for New CISO Following Departure
Following the exit of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Adam Smith, the NSW Premier’s Department will begin recruiting for his replacement in early 2025. Smith, who joined the department in May 2021, has left to pursue new opportunities.
A department spokesperson confirmed the recruitment timeline, emphasizing the department’s commitment to maintaining a secure digital environment that effectively addresses cyber risks and protects public trust in NSW government services. “Acting arrangements will ensure continuity of operations until a permanent replacement is appointed,” the spokesperson added.
The Premier’s Department, responsible for overseeing NSW’s 430,000 public sector employees, remains dedicated to strong cybersecurity leadership. Notably, in 2021, the NSW government opted to keep Cyber Security NSW within the Department of Customer Service, declining calls to move it under the Premier’s Department’s purview.
