ANZ to Launch Group-Wide Data and Analytics Division, New CDAO Role
ANZ Banking Group is establishing a new, group-wide data and analytics division and creating a senior executive position to lead it. This move is part of a broader organizational shift aimed at enhancing operational efficiency across the bank.
A central element of this reorganization is the introduction of a group operations function, soon to be led by a new group executive of operations, with an appointment expected in the coming months. The new data and analytics division, along with its leadership, is also a key part of these changes.
The upcoming chief data and analytics officer (CDAO) will lead the data strategy, data engineering, and AI initiatives for the bank, reporting directly to Gerard Florian, ANZ’s group executive of technology. Recruitment for this role is set to begin shortly, with a targeted start date for the CDAO around March 2025.
In a statement, ANZ clarified that this team would shape the bank’s data architecture and spearhead the integration of AI across the organization. ANZ has been increasingly focused on AI-driven innovation, with significant efforts in generative AI across software development and other internal processes.
ANZ’s previous chief data officer, Emma Gray, departed in 2022, after which data responsibilities shifted to chief risk officer for data and technology, Michelle Pinheiro. With the creation of this new division, data governance and strategy will once again operate as a distinct function within the bank.
To support AI adoption at all levels, ANZ recently introduced an AI “immersion” center, aiming to train 3,000 leaders across the bank in AI applications over the next year. This reflects ANZ’s commitment to leveraging advanced data and AI tools for innovation and performance enhancement.
