Coles Announces $880M Investment in Third Automated Distribution Centre
Coles Group is set to invest $880 million in a new automated distribution centre in Truganina, on the outskirts of Melbourne, marking its third such facility in Australia. This centre will be powered by the same Witron automation technology used at Coles’ existing centres in Queensland and New South Wales, which opened in April 2023 and August 2023, respectively.
In a statement, Coles emphasized that the expansion aligns with its strategy to create a more efficient, safe, and sustainable supply chain. The Truganina facility is expected to boost capacity by 15 percent over the other centres, largely due to its broader service area.
“The Victorian facility will service all stores in Victoria and Tasmania and integrate with our supply chains in South Australia and Western Australia, enhancing availability for customers across multiple states,” said Coles CEO Leah Weckert. “This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to using technology to ensure product availability and improve supply chain efficiency.”
The new facility further supports Coles’ ongoing transformation efforts, aiming to meet growing demand while optimizing its supply chain network across the country.
